...nor menacing winds kept the Thursday night blues jam at the Northside Bar & Grill from happening last night. It was a fun night and a couple guys I work with got to see me play. They didn't stay long, but enjoyed themselves a lot. So did I.

A real treat for me was the chance to hear Robert (don't know his last name) playing my guitar thru my amp. He's a great player and it was nice hearing him coax some sweet singing tones from my rig. Strat, 3 pedals and the amazing Laney amp. I hope I sounded as good as Robert did. And what a guy, too. He let Brian Brown play his awesome Gibson Pat Martino model, so I felt compelled to let Robert play my gear. I don't offer it to just anybody. I've jammed with Robert a couple times and know he's a tasteful player who doesn't do a slamfest on a guitar. It was great!

Johnny,
Thanks a heap, buddy! Encouragement from good musicians is always appreciated. I always enjoy playing with you. You're solid and creative on the bass. For someone who isn't really a "blues player", which is what you told me a couple weeks ago, you sure got a lot of folks fooled!

I like the sound you get from your Fender bass. Sometimes it sounds amazingly like a standup bass. Leo Fender got a lot of things right with the first Fender bass.

Geez, man. Thanks again. I do try to play for the song, keep the ego offstage and try to help everyone have fun. I'm jonesing to get something going, but I need to get the work schedule tamed first. But I'm working on that end of it, too.

Hi Garth,

I really appreciate your thoughtful approach to guitar and songs. You seem to have a check your ego at the door ideal, and to me this make the difference in being a good player and a great one. Last night I got a chance to listen to you more from the audience than the stage, and thought you and your rig sounded awesome.

Keep up the good work, or play?
Johnny
