EMBRACE OF WARMTH blanket drive and live concert on March 15th 2008 Sat.,3 to 6pm at Cozmic.

Hey, my fellow Blue-sers (and folksters, and rockers, and jazzers), The last three weeks I have been putting together blankets and musicians, secured the venue and so far two confirmed sets, another is definite maybe/spoke with one of the lead men in the group yesterday, and one set is left to fill. I need volunteers to help post flyers, of which my son Taylor and I are trying to figure out the art program that our dear friend - you know whooooo u r - loaned us. As you will see from the post that I have already registered with a website called Eventful (there are others that I will post on too) I am asking that all who attend please bring one clean blanket per person, and if you are able to collect a huge huggable pile of blankets, please call me and I will come get. The last pick up date for blankets is the last weekend of February 2008, otherwise please bring them to the event, preferably before the event that starts at 3pm...I should be there from 1:30 pm on. Cozmic's owner(s) is deciding if we will be allowed to pitch a netted structure outside for disbersement of blankets during the event. This is the first of what is planned to be more blanket raising events throughout Oregon...how about including a barn raising with blanket raising...anyone own a barn? I am also looking for donation barrels or big boxes like what fridgs and washer/dryers come in. If you have any questions please call me on the cell at : 541/915-0902 and/or email on Comcast.net: HutchHaven@comcast.net Please put in the subject line Embrace Of Warmth blanket drive because if I don't recognize you I will be deleting the E.

just tried posting the event, didn't work.

EMBRACE OF WARMTH BLANKET DRIVE

Hosted by: Surprise guests, and creator/director Christine Hutchinson

Location: Cozmic Pizza in downtown Eugene, Oregon on corner of 7th and Charleton

Time: 3pm to 6pm (we are completely packed up and outta there by 6:30)

Date: March 15, 2008 Saturday

Musical guests so far slated are: Frank and Wayne "Still Waters",

Steve Ibach - acoustic set, and hopefully will join my dear JC Rico and his group Zulu Dragon for another set.

The Porch Dawgs - Pappy who is the bass player has shared with one member of the group already and will be sharing all the literature I sent to him with the other members this month.

What I am working on is getting my son's Marching/Pep Band to come and do the intro of the Ducks, and the Beavers, fight songs. That is bound to shake the house.

We need to fill 4 sets. Please feel free to spread the word.

BluesINhugs,

"MamaC" Christine

Ooohhh here is alittlebitta more of info and request. I tell you all that this, what I call "installment thinking" - a strange ailment that befriends those of middle age...and my memory must of migrating to my fat cells...
Regarding the EMBRACE OF WARMTH blanket drive and concert: I heard from the Director of Service planning,Accessibility and Marketing at Lane Transit Department today and although he greatly appreciates the material and will spread the word, they cannot contribute. The reason is as follows and then it will be followed by my suggestion. "LTD participates with area organizations in Project Homeless Connect. I am sure you are probably aware the PHC reached hundreds of individuals and families last year and plans to reaach more this year. This event is in February and includes services from every major social service agency and many private groups as well. Because of our partnership on this large regional event we will likely not participate in your event this time around, but I will be anxious to see how your event develops. As a government agency we cannot donate, but I will be sure our employees hear about your event and spread the word." I did write him back mentioning that I would like to be involved/assist in any way. I will also follow up on this on my own tomorrow. My request: With some of the monies donated at this March 15th Sat. event I am going to put toward buying bus passes for our Lane County homeless. So please will you come and lend a hand? If I cannot buy bus passes for them, I will have Embrace Of Warmth issue a money order for them to purchase one. I also want hair cutters to donate vouchers. I also want car dealers to donate a car every year. I want hotels and motels to issue vouchers. My idealistic, and realistic, dreams should come true.
I will be asking the various social agencies if they in fact issue bus passes...we all know they issue food, coats, scarfs, hats, blankets. FYI: St. Vincent de Paul will not give out free items at their outlets (I hear this from other people too), but will donate items to The Family Center in Eugene,Oregon..so says the fella from TFC when he called. He took a little offense from a statement in my initial letter, I think he took it as St. Vincent does not contribute at all. I apologized and made clear (I hope) where I was coming from.
I hope to have at least flyers with the musical lineup issues at the Project Homeless Connect event, maybe have a stage announcement.

On an entirely different subject: On the TONIGHT show tonight, The Blind Boys Of Alabama are on. They are one of my all time favorite performers. Seen them live and it always, all ways, brings "happy tears." Give a watch, you are bound to be inspired.
Good night everyone,
Christine

The address for the March 15th event is 199 -8th Street NOT NOT NOT 7th.
IT IS 8th Street.
Feel bad that I did not catch that mistake earlier.

Hope to see you at Cozmic on Saturday, March 15, 2008 at 3pm. Let US all help the homeless.
