Hey Barbara,
I hope all is well with you and the COB crew....
I don't know if you heard, but The Ty Curtis Band came in 2nd at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis!
We're all pretty excited about it. Memphis was a great experience...play...
Perhaps the late great Paul Delay said it best about Ty Curtis: “He plays it like a young man should—straight ahead and from the heart.”
Northwest blues fans agree, filling the dance floors at Mac’s, Lefty’s, Rogue Brewery, the Oregon Garden, Roadhouse 101, and Chinook Winds Casino as well as an on-air performance for KMHD radio in Portland. In September ‘06 they opened for Curtis Salgado and in October for Paul DeLay.
In July 2007, the band made their debut at the Waterfront Blues Festival earning a standing ovation from the crowd. The summer of 2007 also included bookings at Corvallis’ DaVinci Days, the Eugene Celebration, Silverton Art Fair, Bones & Brews, KMHD’s Summer Bash and the Oregon State Fair.
Meanwhile, the band’s CD, Stubborn Mind, has been receiving air play on KRVM, KLCC, KBOO, KMHD and KINK. The CD was recently selected to represent the Cascade Blues Association in the Blues Foundation’s Best Self Produced CD competition. Not a bad start for a young band.
As Greg Johnson, president of the Cascade Blues Association, said, “If you don’t know the name Ty Curtis now, remember it. I definitely foresee success in this band’s future.”
Hi Guys ... Thanks so much for your incredible show at The Central Oregon Blues and Crawfish Fest in Sisters last night. It was amazing to see the crowd go from subdued to high energy when you hit the stage! I got your new CD but was too tired from the long weekend festivities to hang out afterward. I got quite a few good photos and will post them here in my photos.
Healing light being sent for Jim Smith's full recovery, and his dad did such an awesome job on bass, I was really moved. Thanks, dad.
How's the CD coming along? Looking forward to seeing you in Sisters. I listen to "Fresh Tracks" on KLCC most days while at work, and often get to hear a tune from The Ty Curtis Band ... a real treat :)
Hi Gary,
I believe Cliff is working with Tom and Ryan on a booth for COBS info at the Central Oregon Blues Festival. I'll be sure to check out your show, and am looking forward to meeting you all :)
Barb
You wrote "if you google for videos of the band there is a great one from the Corvallis Fall Festival with a local homeless guy dancing in front of the stage...."
Yeah! I saw a short (less than a minute clip) of that guy, and another one where he was "dancing" the same way to country music ... LOL! He certainly was enjoying himself :) I'll look for some more videos next time I'm there. You can embed the video code here in your COBS box on your page, if you want :)
