About Me:
I play guitar and sing. Locally, I had my own band for a couple years (Rhythm Rock-It) and have also played with the Badlands Boogie Band...and one of Ronnie Smith's projects called Korndog Failure. And prior to that, I played in church a lot, but I don't do that any longer.

I enjoy the blues a lot but like other types of music also. I go to blues jams and open mics when time allows. Getting the jones to get something musical started again; it will probably be more acoustic in nature, as I might not have the patience for a band project. But if the stars all lined up just right and the muses all got together, who knows? I'm trying to rearrange my work schedule to accomplish this.

Favorite blues guitarists: Rory Gallagher, Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, Duane Allman, Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson. My favorite person right now is Mark Knopfler (former Dire Straits bandleader). His songwriting knocks my socks off, and his playing is so tasteful. Not really a blues guitarist per se, but he has great chops whatever he plays.

Other favorite guitarists: Mike Campbell (Tom Petty's band), Roy Nichols (formerly with Merle Haggard), Pete Townshend, Dickey Betts, Warren Haynes, Leo Kottke, Ritchie Blackmore, George Harrison, Lowell George, Dan Tyminski (Allison Krause).

Back to Square One

I thought I had an impending job offer from a company that would have provided me with 2 things I really need right now...a steady income and stable daytime hours. Well, after going thru the recruiting process for 10 days, they passed on me. I'm a bit bummed and am really tired of my current work situation...it's close to intolerable for me because of the spotty work, ridiculous shift changes (days, swings, nights whenever the need arises) and constant staff turnover.

So back to square one with… Continue

Neither Sleet Nor Snow...

...nor menacing winds kept the Thursday night blues jam at the Northside Bar & Grill from happening last night. It was a fun night and a couple guys I work with got to see me play. They didn't stay long, but enjoyed themselves a lot. So did I.

A real treat for me was the chance to hear Robert (don't know his last name) playing my guitar thru my amp. He's a great player and it was nice hearing him coax some sweet singing tones from my rig. Strat, 3 pedals and the amazing Laney amp.

Sick of Being Sick!

Just wanting to feel NORMAL again. This is Friday and I've been pretty ill since Tuesday. I am feeling a little better, but am really sick and tired of being sick and tired.

Will kick off the Front Porch Acoustic Jam & Open Mic at Grover's this Sunday, January 20, 2008. Not real sure of the time, but I think Dan Chavers used to do the open mic there at 6 p.m. If that's okay with Mike, I'll stick to the 6-8 p.m. time slot, to get folks home early on Sunday evening. Times may vary wi

Am I a Blues Player?

I've wondered for a long time if I am a blues player. In the past I played in straight country bands, country-rock bands and classic rock bands. Always played a few blues tunes here and there.

Growing up, I cut my teeth on guys and bands that are considered blues players or blues-rock bands. Cream and Clapton. The Allman Brothers Band. Rory Gallagher. Deep Purple. Foghat. Rolling Stones. Johnny Winter. ZZ Top. The Who. Okay, The Who is just a rock band, but I got a lot of my rhythmic s

Well, probably gonna put my gear back in the pawn shop. I'd rather earn some money playing music with it, but it serves its purpose this way also. I need a bit of extra money to move into an apartment - me and my doggie Mocha.

I'd rather have the Breedlove out so I can play it. I'm really going to try to focus on working as an acoustic artist.

Hi there,
Yes, I got the Strat and amp back. A friend of mine put up the money. A very touching gesture, but now I owe my friend money.

Still have the Breedlove in pawn. I'll get it out soon, when I get paid next week, if I have enough left over.

I'll be out and about soon enough. Had to work a couple Thursdays ago. Last night I visited and jammed with a friend I hadn't seen in a long time. It was fun.

Just wondering what's going on with COBS. Nobody is posting on the site. I've put my gear in the pawn shop (will get it out soon), so haven't been making the rounds at the jams.

So is COBS gonna make it or not?

My second day doing the M-F day shift thing. It's...SWEET! The only bummer is that I only get paid once a month. Can you say BUDGET?

But I have some stuff to study up on, to make a good impression right away. I've been out of the industry for a couple years and it changes rapidly. But it's going very, very well right now.

I'm happy to report that I FINALLY found a decent job. Monday-Friday, day shift, leaving my nights and weekends open for playing a lot more music. It will be a relief to have steady hours and steady income again.

At some point, if things work out right, I'd like to play music more than I work.

I can'tead the comment you left for me but I hope it was ok after attending your meeting. Thanks for letting me sit by you. You guys have it going on and I know it will work. I went to the St. Pady's Day thing tonghit dontown Portland some great local blues. I am a HARMONICA JUNKIE!! I left when John Lee Hooker Jr came on, it was time to go. I am excited about moving to Memphis but don't know what to expect. I read your story about the job issue. I have been unemployed since Aug-laid off after 17 yrs and right now I feel like Cinderella. A week ago I was so down and depressed I didn't know what to do. So all I can say which is going to sound lame but you have to feel it will turn around. Take Crae Marc
