I received messages on Myspace recently from Tom White and Ryan Fundeburg regarding a Central Oregon Blues and Crawfish Festival they are planning for Friday, July 4th and Saturday, July 5th 2008.
I spoke to Ryan Funderburg, who is doing the booking of local musicians, by phone Friday. This is the info I got from him in response to my questions.
The Festival will feature Cajun cooking (that's the crawfish part) and they are working on getting a chef from Louisiana, as well as another vendor to provide BBQ food, most likely tri-tip.
There will be beer vendors, a microbrew and possibly another for light beers. There will be overnight camping available for festival attendees.
The Festival is being sponsored by Clear 101 radio station and Bend Broadband, both of which will have booths at the Festival.
When I expressed an interest in our blues society having a booth at the festival , he said thought it would be best to talk about that with the promoter, Tom White.
The headliners for the concert will be John Lee Hooker, Jr. and Kenny Neal. Ryan is in the process of booking the remainder of the Festival acts. They need six blues bands to fill three time slots each afternoon of the Festival. The first would be approx. 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, the last approx. 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
At this point, as this is the first year just getting this off the ground, they are not able to pay compensation for these sets.
However, each night after the Festival there will be after-parties at Bronco Billy's. The bands playing these events will have to provide their own P.A. system, and would be provided with a free dinner, and couple of beer vouchers for each band member who wanted them. Also the band would keep all door fees and provide their own door person to collect them.
The Festival event will be advertised on Clear 101 radio station and on Bend Broadband, as well as other forms of advertising.
