Yeah...Long Live The Pocket. I like the catcher's mitt analogy. If you don't catch the ball in the pocket, it hurts. You can still catch it, but it just doesn't feel right.

hey john,
thanks for starting this up! i think this could turn into something really
good.there's a lot of discussion to be had about technique,time,style,
playing the right lines for blues,dynamics,listening to every one on the
stage with you etc.oh, did i forget that almighty but so illusive "pocket"
that so many players i've seen in the past don't have a CLUE about!!
they just kind of wander around with indistinct notes all
the while thinking they're bein' cool just because they're up on stage
with a band!! those guys should forget about it and take up another hobby!DON'T WASTE OUR TIME!!
current F.I.L.P. members excluded from my ranting,to be sure.
ok, one final thought,and i quote,'if you're not married to the
drumset in one way or another,you're just in the way"...words to live by.
