COBS

Central Oregon Blues Society

Hi anyone who's paying attention. It strikes me as alittle odd that, while this is a group devoted to preserving and advancing the blues, there are 8 page headings and none of them offers any tunes. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to turn each other on to good tunes and artists here?

There may be issues associated with that that would make it difficult, impossible, illegal, or all of the above. In lieu of that, I sometimes use a website called imeem.com, where you can find and listen to all sorts of music, posted by all sorts of people. In particular lately, I've been enjoying everything I can find by Elmore James and Robert Johnson, and everything by Derek and the Dominoes - what a funky band that was!

Hey Jeff!

Check out Music Discoveries... it's where we all jabber on about the new bands we're listening to at present.

Hey Jeff! I'm kind of an idiot about uploading, converting tunes to MP3's and all of that, and right now, I use my wife's computer. She doesn't want me putting a lot of music on the hard drive. But I'll figure it out eventually!

And like you, I've been listening to some of the stuff that influenced the guys that influenced me as a player. I noted while watching the Derek Trucks Band on the 2007 Crossroads DVD, Derek Trucks said in the short interview that after he became enamored with the sound of the slide guitar, he really started "digging in" to the Derek & The Dominoes LP. I don't know how old he was when he started digging in, but I guess I never got past just "digging" it! I wasn't a good enough player back then to appreciate all that was being played on that album, surely one of the best of all time.

So, nice to see ya jump right in. Eventually I'd like to record some of my stuff and start uploading original stuff. Trying to work some of that out...

Hey Jeff, I"m with you on the idea that we should be able to file share music on the website sort of like a musicans outreach. charly

Charley, check out the file sharing disclaimer when you set up "LIME WIRE." All we need is something like that to file share. Also if Ning has the option to "download Mp3" from our individual players that would be cool.

Thanks David, I'll check that out. I'm no download expert either, but it's nice to find new places to find good music.

Barbara, I've got a couple of RJ compilations, but not the boxed set. The Clapton record is a good one too. In his autobiography, he mentions that that album came about while he was trying to record one of his own songs. He was having trouble coming up with enough material that he thought was strong enough, so decided that every time they got stuck for something to do, they'd just cover a RJ song.

Garth, I'm not sure when Derek Trucks started digging that record either, but I'm betting pretty early. Of course, it probably didn't hurt having Butch Trucks, of the Allman Brothers, in the family either! Also of interest is the fact that the song that The Derek Trucks Band performs (with Mike Mattison and Susan Tedeschi singing), "Anyday", is one of the songs on "Layla and Other Assorted Lovesongs".
